JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry

JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry

Food insecurity is an issue we don’t often associate with older adults and yet they are the largest population using food pantries today. Established in 1998, the mission of the pantry is to provide food, nutrition education, and social services to those in need within the Jewish, gluten-free, and 15217 communities. The Pantry’s “client choice” model provides a grocery store-like shopping experience where clients are able to choose the products that are right for their families. The Pantry provides non-perishable items, fresh produce, frozen meat, paper products, and personal hygiene items. Clients must be at or below 150% of the poverty level to qualify for the free services the Pantry provides.

Volunteers are a welcome source of help at the Pantry. There are individual and group opportunities available including packing produce, shopping with clients, stocking shelves, or even running a food drive. Let us know how you would like to help!
