What Squirrel Hill Can Learn from Chicago’s West Rogers Park- film screening and discussion

February 21, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

What Squirrel Hill Can Learn from Chicago’s West Rogers Park In the Aftermath of October 27, a program in support of neighborhood preservation and development, will be presented by Howard Rieger and Beverly Siegel at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 21, at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, Levinson Hall B, 5738 Forbes Ave in Squirrel Hill.

The program will feature a screening of “Driving West Rogers Park: Chicago’s Once and Future Jewish Neighborhood,” a 25‐minute video by Siegel, an award‐winning documentary maker and part‐time Pittsburgh resident, followed by remarks by Rieger, immediate‐past president/CEO of both Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and Jewish Federations of North America. Rieger currently is volunteer president of the Jewish Neighborhood Development Council of Chicago in West Rogers Park, Chicago’s flagship Jewish neighborhood and one of the city’s most diverse, community activism by local residents is fortifying a Jewish housing boom, beautifying the neighborhood, and stoking civic improvements.

Rieger will talk about how the lessons of West Rogers Park can inform a wave of community activism in Squirrel Hill, building upon the outpouring of solidarity that followed the October 27 attack, to strengthen and preserve Jewish Squirrel Hill for future generations.

The program is free and open to the community. For more information, please contact Howard Rieger at [email protected].
