AgeWell Rides
AgeWell Rides is a volunteer-based transportation system for people ages 60 or over who do not drive and provides a way for seniors to get to medical appointments, go grocery shopping, do some volunteer work, or attend social events in the community while at the same time making a friendly new acquaintance. The program helps seniors stay active and independent while remaining connected to the larger community. The service is for the East End of Pittsburgh primarily, including Oakland, Squirrel Hill, and Shadyside, as well as Mount Lebanon. AgeWell Rides is an ongoing service with rides provided 7 days a week by volunteers as available. There is no cost associated with this program as funders such as private foundations, donors, and the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania help support our initiatives.
Common Questions
Indeed you can! Our volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to pick you up and take you to where you need to go!
Absolutely! We see AgeWell Rides as more than transportation. We see it as a way to talk and share with a newfound friend and keep you connected to all different parts of the community. So talk away!
Yes you are still eligible! Canes and walkers are fine and we encourage their use to keep seniors safe. Wheelchairs are more difficult and we cannot accept those at this time.
